The Unveiling
The earrings were unveiled at Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas in Dubai Gold District by Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism. A Guinness World Records adjudicator presented the certificates to the minister, Chairman Dr. Joy Alukkas and CEO John Paul Alukkas.

Guests included representatives of Dubai Gold District, the Dubai Golden Jewellery Group and the World Gold Council.
John Paul Alukkas said the company has been in the UAE for about four decades and wanted to give something back to Dubai. Dr. Joy Alukkas described the piece as a tribute to the city and to the artisans who made it.
The Name
Mayura means peacock in Sanskrit and Sahasra means a thousand. The name draws on a legend of a divine peacock that released a thousand feathers, each symbolising a prayer, a hope or a dream.
The peacock was named India's national bird in 1963, and the detailing on the earrings follows the look of its feathers. The design is based on the jhumka, the bell shaped earring traditional in South Asian jewellery.
The earrings are on permanent public display at Jewel of Joy, in Dubai Gold District. The showroom is open from 10am to 10pm daily and entry is free.
A Strategy to Win Attention
A pair of earrings this size is not meant to be worn at a wedding. Industry watchers say that is part of the point. JK says brands have started designing exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces mainly to get eyeballs. Such designs may or may not sell, but they bring a great deal of attention to the brand, and that attention has become a strategy to attract a high jewellery customer base.
Joyalukkas is one of several jewellers to follow this route recently:
GRT Jewellers: To mark its 60th anniversary, GRT set a Guinness record for the heaviest pair of gold earrings, the 22 carat Mega Jhumkas weighing 3.527 kg. Each jhumka was carved with 500 elephants, inspired by the legend of a 1,000-elephant royal wedding procession
Sukra Jewellery: It set a Guinness record for the world’s largest silver wardrobe, marking its 45th anniversary in the silver industry.
Sabyasachi High Jewellery: In March 2026, it unveiled the Hazaribagh Necklace, a high-value statement piece with coloured gemstones and South Sea pearls
Sharjah Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show: The expo opened with the “Dubai Dress”, a 10 kg, 21 karat gold gown that set a Guinness record as the heaviest gold dress.
With the Mayura Sahasra, Joyalukkas joins a growing list of jewellers using record-setting showpieces to stand out in a crowded market.
